i know tuna can be polarising you either love it or hate it. we are tuna lovers but even people who are not huge fans of tuna have enjoyed my tuna bake.

it’s creamy and crunchy with loads of veggies. i like to make this in huge batches and freeze it so we have leftovers for work lunches.

you can use any vegetables in here and it’s a great way to get kids to eat vegetables.

i really should make more pasta bakes, this tends to be the only one i make and it’s so easy!

cook up some pasta, mix it with some vegetables, tuna and cheese sauce then pour it into a baking dish and top with cheese and bread crumbs to make it extra crunchy and bake it up.

then you end up with this beautifully creamy pasta and a crispy crunchy top.

tuna bake

Servings 8 people


  • 500 grams pasta
  • 850 grams tinned tuna
  • 6 cups vegetables (corn, peas, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, etc)
  • bechamel sauce
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

bechamel sauce

  • 40 grams butter
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 120 grams grated colby cheese
  • 100 grams grated vintage cheddar
  • 40 grams finely grated parmasan


  1. preheat the oven to 180 degrees. 

  2. cook the pasta according to the packet. do not over cook as you will cook it further in the oven

  3. place the pasta in a bowl with the tuna and vegetables, pour over the bechamel sauce and mix well. 

  4. scoop the mixture into a 40cm x 25cm baking dish, sprinkle over the cheese then the breadcrumbs and bake for 20 minutes or until the top is golden and crunchy.

  5. remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes, spoon into bowls and enjoy!

bechamel sauce

  1. place the butter into a medium saucepan over low heat until it's melted. add the flour and whisk well. to ensure there are no lumps. cook for 1 minute.

  2. pour in half a cup of milk and whisk to until smooth, add remaining milk and whisk well. cook stirring constantly for 10-15 minutes or until it thickens, add the grated cheeses and whisk until the cheese have melted. remove from heat.
