Here we are Monday again, as today is my last day of holidays before I go back to work I thought I would share a super simple recipe today. Simple and so tasty! These ham, cheese, honey, mustard hand pies are the bomb!
Look at them! So puffy and golden and crispy! I love using puff pastry, all those thin flaky layers of yum.
These pies are really super simple and only take about 30 minutes from starting to eating, perfect for when you are hungry and NEED FOOD NOW! You guys know what I mean right? I’m not the only one who gets like that? We were grocery shopping the other day and I was coming home to make dinner right after but I was so hungry I had to get myself a snack at the supermarket as well. My husband was like are you sure you need that and I said yes! I’m starving! LOL. Can anyone say hangry????
Oozy, cheesy goodness…. I wish I was eating these right now! They are great for breakfast or lunch, you could even make mini version for party snacks.
The one thing that you really need to make sure of with these is to use really good thick cut ham off the bone. We buy all our meat from our local butcher, they have an in house smoker and smoke their own bacon and hams, along with a variety of other smoked goods. Please don’t use thin deli style ham for this, you want something with a bit of meat to it.
Because these are so simple, using good quality ingredients is key. Really good ham, creamy cheddar cheese, dijon mustard and runny honey and you will be onto a winner.
Ugh, these are just so good. Crispy, flaky, salted, sweet, creamy all things I love.
Ham, Cheese, Mustard, Honey Hand Pies
- 3 sheets frozen puff pastry
- 3 teas dijon mustard
- 140 g ham
- 80 g grated cheddar cheese
- 3 teas runny honey
- 1 egg, beaten
Preheat the oven to 180° celcius. Remove the pastry from the freezer and allow to sit at room temperature for 5 minutes or until thawed.
Cut each sheet of pastry in half so you have 6 long rectangles. Spread 1/2 teas mustard onto 1/2 of each piece of pastry leaving a 1cm border.
Divide the ham between the 6 pies, divide the cheese piling on top if the ham, Drizzle each with 1/2 teas honey. Sprinkle each with a pinch of salt & pepper.
Brush the edges with egg and folder the pastry in half to enclose the filling. Press down the edges with a fork to seal.
Place pies onto a baking sheet and brush with egg. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and puffed. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving, enjoy!
