happy sunday friends!! are you brunching today? at home? i know, i know. at home you have to make your own brunch, but…. at home there is truly bottomless coffee, cocktails and you can stay in your pajamas! what’s not to love??? anywho today i am bringing you this quick easy bagel french toast recipe, it can be made from start to finish in under 20 minutes!
i love bagels but they are one of those things you either love them or hate them. my old house mate hated them, no matter how he had them he just found them to heavy. me on the other hand can’t get enough! so much so that i avoid walking past the bagel store near where i work because inevitably i will buy ALLLLL the bagels.
what i didn’t anticipate was that bagel store having a stand at the farmers market last weekend, yep i have no self control when it comes to bagels so obviously i had to buy some. no my plan was to just get 2 cinnamon and raisin bagels to make french toast the next morning but they were $2 each or 6 for $10 so i had no choice i had to get 6, right? right?? i mean the everything bagels were practically screaming for some avocado! it wasn’t my fault…
bagel french toast is so easy simply slice your bagels in half, send them for a swim in some eggy custard ^^^ make sure you really press down on them when they are in the egg mix, bagels are dense so you need to encourage them to oak up the custard. then fry them in some butter!
because cinnamon raisin bagels are already quite sweet i didn’t add any sugar to my custard mix, if your bagels are not so sweet add a couple of tablespoons of caster sugar to the mix. you don’t want too much as the maple syrup brings the sweetness.
just look at how golden and perfect they are!! i served mine simply with whipped cream and maple syrup, but strawberries or banana would be incredible additions! i just wanted this to be an easy sunday morning go to recipe that you could take and adapt and make your own!
